The point system was developed by DMV to identify drivers who commit a series of less serious violations in a relatively short period of time. The number of points for a particular violation is based upon the relative seriousness of the violation. If you collect from 4 to 10 points within 18 months (based on the date of the violations), DMV will send you a warning letter. If you get 11 or more points in 18 months, you will be notified to attend a hearing before an administrative law judge. At the hearing, the judge may suspend or revoke your license.
Remember that certain single violations or combinations of violations will result in suspension or revocation without a hearing because the law requires this action. For example, if you commit three speeding violations in 18 months, the law requires DMV to revoke your license for at least 6 months, even if the point total for these violations is less than 11.
You can reduce your point total by taking DMV approved driver improvement courses. The Club offers a DMV-approved accident-prevention courses. With the completion of these courses, you can decrease your point total by up to four points for any violations that occurred within the past 18 months before the course. Also, principal drivers can save 10% on their insurance for three years.
The course may be taken every three years for insurance purposes and every 18 months for point reduction. For more information on AAA's Driver Improvement Program, click here.

No, generally, minor defects on tickets for moving violations can be "amended at trial."
New York City Traffic Rules and Regulations state that "No person regularly engaged in the sale of vehicles shall park a vehicle upon any roadway or off-street parking facility for the principal purpose of displaying such vehicle for sale". The regulation is intended to stop auto dealers from setting up de facto dealerships in public parking lots and on roadsides. Any private citizen who receives a summons for having "for sale" signs on their personal vehicles can fight the ticket, citing section 4-08 (n)(I) of the regulations.
Forms are available at the Manhattan PVO help center, the DMV's Manhattan offices, or by calling the New York City Department of Finance at 718/935-6079.
State law requires parking tickets, adjudicated by parking violations bureaus (PVBs), to be written so they can be understood. In order for a summons to be valid, it must include the vehicle designation, plate type, registration expiration date, vehicle make or model, and body type. It must also include the date, time, and location of the violation, the specific violation, and the days and hours the parking rule is in effect.
Handicapped Plates and Permits are issued to individuals with disabilities by the state and certain local agencies. In the 5 boroughs of New York City, these plates only allow parking in signed or blue-painted "Handicapped" spots in shopping malls or off-street lots.
You must park at least 15 feet from either side of a hydrant.
